Shot of Love
04:26
|
|||
A man’s got the freedom to do as he pleases
But if he kills all the gods they come back as diseases
That’s the trouble with pleasure, you can never get enough
The only cure is a shot of love
Shot of love, oh yeah, shot of love
I’ve been swimming in circles like a fish in a bowl
Dreaming ‘bout a river that I once called home
Get me moving ‘fore I run out of puff
You can start me up with a shot of love
Shot of love, oh yeah, shot of love
I went to the doctor and he gave me medication
When that didn’t work I tried levitation
Then the answer came like a vision from above
You don’t need nothing but a shot of love
Shot of love, oh yeah, shot of love
Shot of love, oh yeah, shot of love
I could move to a new location, and hope things’ll be better there
I could find me a new vocation
Wash this frustration out of my hair
It’s the law of the jungle if you wanna get ahead
You wind up sleeping in another man’s bed
I could never get into that push and shove
All I ever wanted was a shot of love
Well you can’t get away from the trouble and the trauma
And you never know what’s lurking round the corner
They say the tough get going when the going gets tough
But you can ease the burden with a shot of love
Shot of love, oh yeah, shot of love
Shot of love, oh yeah, shot of love
Shot of love, oh yeah, shot of love

Marked Man
05:00
|
|||
My daddy told me a story when I was just a kid
Something out of the ordinary, he could never forget
He was struck one day by a lightning bolt as he took refuge from a storm
And when he came down from that mountaintop
He was a marked man from that day on
He was a marked man, he was branded deep
The sparks fly from his hands and feet
He was woken from a dream, man
Cast upon the sea, man
Destination unknown
So when the sign said WARNING: DO NOT ADVANCE
I heard the old man calling and thought I’d take a chance
And I wandered through those borderlands till I lost my way
But the voodoo did its work on me
And I’m a marked man to this day
I’m a marked man, I’m branded deep
The sparks fly from my hands and feet
I was woken from a dream, man
Cast upon the sea, man
Destination unknown
Along came Salome with her seven veils
How she liked to tease me with her salty tales
Each night another veil would fall
She cooked me slow
Now those seven days are over
But I’m a marked man wherever I go
I’m a marked man, got your brand on me
In your hands my soul to keep
I only want to be a free man, you got the key, ma’am
I belong to you
I remember how she took me down the winding road
And how she spoke to me in a secret code
I had to slip my moorings and come on over her side
Now I’m a marked man, I’m telling you
I don’t know where my home resides
I’m a marked man, got your brand on me
In your hands my soul to keep
I only want to be a free man, you got the key, ma’am
I belong to you

Dharma soldier, you’ll keep on fighting till the end
Nobody told ya, just a voice inside your head
You made a brave decision, you took the warrior’s path
Here’s to ya, fortify your heart
You stoop to conquer, you surrender to the cause
You strip away the layers as you get closer to the source
The taste of liberation is such a powerful draught
No hesitation, fortify your heart
You gotta ride that steed, ride him till you’re saddle sore
Results are guaranteed, you’ll win the battle for sure
You light your lantern, and keep it burning every day
You tend your garden, keeping all the weeds at bay
Old enemies will stalk you, you’ll have to be on guard
Keep moving, fortify your heart
You gotta ride that steed, ride him till you’re saddle sore
Results are guaranteed, even if you stumble and fall
Oh dharma soldier, you’re getting lighter every day
I’m happy for ya that things are turning out this way
No telling what you’ll find there behind the blank facade
Have faith now, fortify your heart

The Last to Know
03:40
|
|||
Fancy meeting you here, here of all places
Back where it all began, where fate detained us
We were walking on the sand, you were holding my hand
How I ever let you go, I’d be the last to know
Guess you’re looking much the same, maybe a little greyer
I see you’ve had some pain – you’ve grown a deeper layer
The sea is rising like before
Can’t touch the bottom anymore
Do you feel the undertow?
I’d be the last to know
Fancy meeting you here, all alone like this
I thought the smoke would’ve cleared, but I must confess
I never could get over you
You broke my heart in two
Why I never let it show
I’d be the last to know
Did you see the sparks fly from the alchemist’s fire?
Did your heart start to overflow?
And did you feel those strong waves of desire
When they turned the lamps down low?
You never told me so . . .
Fancy meeting you here, after all this time
You’ve been away so long – I never stopped from crying
I guess you never did pretend
That I was more than just a friend
But even if you loved me so
I’d be the last to know

An Emission From God
04:20
|
|||
Last night I dreamed that I woke up in a stage show, a crazy pantomime
Where everybody told the same old story that didn’t suit the times
They were living in a land of plenty, taking as much as they want
Still fiddling while the house is burning, there seemed to be a block
It made me nervous . . .
Me I was sent there on an urgent mission – on a mission from God
To say the earth was on a path of destruction, we had to change the plot
They told me I should go and meet the director
And share my grave concerns
But he was busy with the private sector, he didn’t want to be disturbed
By any bad news . . .
Fair warning – you could’ve seen it coming for miles
Stonewalling – at least we’re gonna go out in style
Fair warning – you could’ve seen it coming for miles
Stonewalling – at least we’re gonna go out in style
I took a pen and I launched a revolution against the need to consume
They only put me in an institution for being a prophet of doom
Woke up this morning and the sun was shining, looked like a beautiful day
But I couldn’t get the weight off my shoulders, the weight of shame
And it’s a big one . . .
Fair warning – you could’ve seen it coming for miles
Stonewalling – at least we’re gonna go out in style
Fair warning – you could’ve seen it coming for miles
Stonewalling – at least we’re gonna go out in style

It Ain't Over Yet
06:46
|
|||
Down the crowded streets I’m searching for a face
I saw it in a dream when she met my gaze
With her jungle eyes she reached into my soul
Exposed my heart and devoured it whole
Like a crazy apparition she just came and went
But I can’t help thinking
It ain’t over, it ain’t over yet
There’s a lot of girls who have a face like hers
But they’re not the same without the battle scars
She stepped into my world and turned it upside down
I’m not the man I was before she came to town
She might be standing on the corner puffing on a cigarette
She might expect me to ignore her, but
It ain’t over, it ain’t over yet
It’s never over till it’s over - goes the old adage
The show is never over till the actors leave the stage
And I’ll be singing my love song till the last refrain
Will we be together then?
When the music fades . . .
I can howl like a wolf, I can prowl like a cat
I can flush her out of her habitat
On this very street our paths might cross
And again I’ll see what it is I’ve lost
If she has the remedy I’ll be forever in her debt
You can’t mess with sorcery
It ain’t over, it ain’t over yet
It’s never over till it’s over - goes the old adage
The story isn’t over till the final page
And I’ll be singing my love song till the last refrain
Will we be together then?
When the music fades . . .
Something passed between us that we’re not likely to forget
In this life or the next one
It ain’t over, it ain’t over yet
It’s never over till it’s over - goes the old adage
The show is never over till the actors leave the stage
And I’ll be singing my love song till the last refrain
Will we be together then?
When the music fades . . .
It’s never over till it’s over - goes the old adage
The story isn’t over till the final page
And I’ll be singing my love song till the last refrain
Will we be together then?
When the music fades . . .

For Your Ears Alone
03:59
|
|||
I come alive when you light my fuse
You got the cure for these heartsick blues
You bring me wine and you loosen my collar
A certain glow comes to your eyes
I know I’m heading into Paradise
I burn for you, and I think you know it
Sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do
And put your heart on the line
It might be the best thing you’ll ever do
Or it could leave you crying
I’m writing words on every page
Trying to find the right catchphrase
To lure you in to my lonely harbour
A certain tune, a certain song
I wouldn’t sing to anyone
For your ears alone, for your heart to fathom
Sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do
And let the heart have its way
Love comes, and fades with the morning dew
And steals your spirit away
Don’t know what came over me
Guess I had the opportunity
And the stars were set in a strange alignment
Like a monkey of a certain age
Who thought it time to rattle his cage
And look outside to the far horizon
Sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do
And leave the rest up to fate
You might feel a change coming over you
You shouldn’t hesitate
Ground’s soggy where it’s been in flood
What I’m standing in may not be mud
I’m up to my ears in a pile of trouble
You don’t answer when I call your name
Maybe you’re expecting me to lift my game
And hold on tight to the stinging nettle
Sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do
And put aside your regret
Sometimes you gotta be who you gotta be
Someone that you’ve never met

We Carry On
04:39
|
|||
I didn’t sign up for this
Didn’t know it would be like this
How far it’d go
You couldn’t write a script for this
There’d be something you’re sure to miss
That you never could know
Here on this fragile stage
We tell the stories of our age
We sing along, we make it strong
We sing through the dark of night
We sing when the day is bright
We face the dawn, we carry on, carry on
I don’t want to go through with this
Wouldn’t know what to do with this
Can’t control it at all
Who would’ve thought it’d end like this
Straying deep in the wilderness
Where the ancestors call
Here on this fragile stage
We tell the stories of our age
We sing along, we make it strong
We sing through the dark of night
We sing when the day is bright
We face the dawn, we carry on, carry on
Here on this fragile stage
(We come and go)
We tell the stories of our age
(New seeds will grow)
We sing along, we make it strong
(It must be so)
We sing through the dark of night
(The seasons turn)
We sing when the day is bright
(A child is born)
We face the dawn
(We carry on)
We carry on, carry on

The moon is playing skittles with the clouds tonight
Seems the weather doesn’t know which way to turn
And I’m sailing ’cross the ocean with no end in sight
Never to return
This little boat was only made to travel solo
You have to leave the past behind
But each new day’s a road to follow
And I’m following mine
I lived the life of a minstrel, a traveller and a family man
What more could I wish for?
I was looking, looking for the moon in the man
I could sing of my adventures on the storm-tossed seas
And the times I had an angel by my side
I could mention all the friends who kept me company
And her sweet, loving eyes
Oh, I’ve never seen the water so translucent
Familiar faces trickle by
And I’ll just linger here a moment
And say my goodbyes
The moon in the night sky always held me in the palm of her hand
I sang of her beauty
I was looking, looking for the moon in the man
I lived the life of a minstrel, a traveller and a family man
What else could I wish for?
I was looking, looking for the moon in the man
